PREPARE YOUR MIND – STRIKE HARD AND FAST

 Martial arts training gives you the tools to protect yourself and your family from dangerous people. Unfortunately, what is missing from a lot of that training is preparation for real situations. Even if you train your physical skills for realistic situations, by sparring or other methods, you are still in a controlled environment. Fear is not really a factor.

But, fear is all too real on the street. It is a mental state that seriously affects your physical state, hampering your ability to deal with a dangerous situation. When this occurs, all of your training goes out the window, and you may wind up dead.

Bruce Drago, security specialist and combatives instructor, has identified four stages of a fight:

  1. mindset
  2. initial attack
  3. combinations
  4. finishing moves.

Of these, the most important is the mindset – this could mean the difference between winning and losing a fight.
